Premier podium for Metaltek Scott

Premier podium for Metaltek Scott

USE sponsored Metaltek Scott have claimed their first Premier calendar podium. The Stockton GP was the penultimate round of the Premier calendar and was held on a rolling circuit which proved difficult for break away to stay away. The Metaltek Scott team controlled the race perfectly in the final miles of the race to deliver Marcel Six, the team sprinter, to the line. Marcel was able to capitalise on the work of his team mates to finish in 3rd place a fantastic result which makes him the only rider from a non-UCI registered team to finish on the podium of the premier calendar this year.

Marcel Six said on his 3rd place

"The first 100km was hard, there was a bit of wind and the pace was so fast it was always going to be difficult for a break to stay away. I sat in the middle of the bunch gambling a bit, hoping for a big bunch kick. After we got onto the finishing circuit it was clear that's what was going to happen".

"Into the final corner and the slight descent to the finish I was fourth wheel behind Chris Opie, Scott Thwaites and Graham Briggs. Opie began to fade, he'd jumped a bit too early, but there was no going past Briggs and Thwaites, they were in their own battle and I couldn't get past".

"This has been a great result for me and our team to get on the podium in such a big race, I'm very happy".

“I felt good all race and the team worked really hard, all of them. They went up to the front when the break was gone and took on the responsibility so it was really nice to be able to pay them back with a podium really.”
“I think it has been a good season. I had a good Tour Series. The team has had a lot of issues with illnesses and that sort of stuff and it was nice to see them over it and in good form today.”
