The rower, riding as part of an eight-man team comprised of people connected with the sport, broke several bones after what sounds like an horrendous fall from his bike shortly after starting a stint on the road with three of his team-mates. Sean Childs is named Sportsman of the Year
UK Royal Navy Sports Awards Sean Childs was named as the Sportsman of the Year for 2009 in recognition of continued success in Cycling Time Trials. The Chief Petty Officer Physical Trainer from Brecon decided to concentrate his energies on cycling in 2004. He has been unbeaten by a Navy cyclist in a time trial for the past seven years and regular scores wins at all distances from 10 miles to 12 hours.
