Bayliss and Comerford finish 1st at Ironman South Africa
Stephen Bayliss and Bella Comerford, Britain's Iron Couple finished 1st in the men's and women's races respectively at Ironman South Africa (3.8km swim / 180km bike / 42.2km run).
Both Bayliss and Comerford's victories came after storming runs that saw them come from behind to take victory in the closing legs of the marathon section of the event before crossing the finish line at the event based in Nelson Mandela Bay.
Like Stephen, Bella had to work very hard on the run starting over 17 minutes behind the early leader Lucy Zelenkova. However, Comerford and Italian Edith Niederfriniger caught Lucy with 6km to go and then battled head to head until the finish where Bella sprinted to victory by just 5 seconds to win in 9:27:48.
